Why Train with Charis Pilates

The growth of reformer Pilates has been incredible, and we love that more people are discovering its benefits. But with that growth has also come a wide range in how it’s being taught.

In many spaces, the industry is starting to shift toward performance and aesthetics. What looks good on camera, moves fast, and what feels trendy. In the process, it can drift away from the roots of what Pilates (Contrology) was trying to achieve.

At Charis, we are a contemporary program, but we deeply respect and value the original practices. The principles still matter, like Control, Breathing, Precision and a thoughtful Flow of movement.

It’s not just about getting through a workout. It’s about understanding how the body moves and helping people improve over time. We don’t just train instructors to lead a class through a flow of exercises, it is to develop real teachers. That means learning how to see the body clearly and respond to what’s actually happening, not just what was planned. Teaching also means guiding clients into meaningful gains.

We encourage our instructors to be patient, observe, and to keep learning beyond initial teacher training. Developing an eye for improper form takes time. Same with recognizing patterns. Charis teachers learn to make thoughtful decisions in real time that support safer, more effective movement.

Finally, safety is not a trend or lip service for us. Safety is the foundation and why we are well known in the community for being a studio that cares. How you teach matters, whether in a group setting or privately one on one. Our clients are trusting you with their bodies.
